Designer handbags are glorious but let's face it, if you’re not Carrie Bradshaw or you haven’t got a spare couple of grand lying around, they’re not always going to be obtainable. I’ve had a look at some of the top designer bags predicted to dominate the market in 2021, to see how they have influenced high street fashion and I've likened them to some of our own bags at Pretty Purchases.
So I'm going to start with Dior’s Medium Bobby Bag which currently retails for around £2800 which is far more than my budget could ever stretch to but is a real investment piece for those of you looking for something extra special. This particular Dior Bobby is made from blue Dior oblique jacquard canvas but also comes in box calfskin, and is enhanced with some antique gold-finish hardware, and can be worn as a crossbody or shoulder bag as well as carried by hand. It was designed for the autumn 2020 and has been adopted by numerous influencers and celebrities such as the italian entrepreneur Chiara Ferrangi, model Natalia Vodianova and actress Suzy Bae.
If your budget is a little more modest but you love the design of the bag,I think you can really see how it has influenced the high street fashion lines, for example, in 3 of our designs below.
The Jodie by Bottega Veneta small leather tote bag which is slightly cheaper than the Dior at around £2465. BV was arguably the most influential brand in 2019 and the Jodie really showcases Bottega Veneta’s signature hand-woven intrecciato weave. This hobo inspired piece is crafted from ice-blue lambs leather but is available in other colours such as Caramel and Sandstone Orange. There is also a maxi version of this bag which retails for around £4645 and is available in Tapioca yellow lamb leather, and also a mini version for around £1330. Jodie Foster has been pictured using her black maxi BV Jodie, to hide behind in an attempt to avoid the paparazzi and Hailey Bieber has been spotted out and about looking very stylish with the mini Jodie in green.
I would definitely liken this bag to Amanda Wakeley’s ‘Rowlands Hobo Bag’ in silver weave in our designer section of Pretty Purchases. It is also still on Amanda Wakeley’s official website for £350 and has also featured on TV shopping channel QVC for over £300, but we’ve been lucky enough to bring this to you for £250 which is an amazingly competitive price for this item. All of our designer bags here at Pretty Purchases come with a protective dust cover bag to keep them clean when not in use, although, if I owned this bag, I think I would use it all the time!
I love the design of this quirky shaped bag made to look like a neckline and shoulders and I also love the way that the v-shape allows for the bag to sit comfortably under your arm when carrying it. This bag currently retails at around £260, so it’s much cheaper than the Dior and Bottega Veneta, but is still quite a lot of money. It’s made from organic cotton-canvas with a leather edged trim and is available in a choice of colours.
So it’s pretty plain to see that the Calella bag has heavily influenced the shape of the ‘Time to Shine’ product on Pretty Purchases although it is more compact and made in two tone coloured patent faux leather to give it an expensive and glossy look, as opposed to the matte look of the canvas material. It is trimmed with gold tone hardware rather than leather which adds to the shininess of the bag and gives it an elegant and classy look. Time to Shine can also be worn on the shoulder as it comes with a long adjustable strap or it can be carried by the slim double handles if you’d prefer. Wear it your way. We have this on sale at Pretty Purchases for £22.95 but whenever I see this bag I always think it looks much more expensive.
